Fr. John Huber, CSB (USMC 9T0), an alumnus of the University of St. Michael’s College, has been elected Superior General of the Basilian Fathers.

“The Collegium of the University of St. Michael’s College extends its sincere congratulations to Fr. John Huber on his election as Superior General of the Basilian Fathers. We are grateful to Fr. Kevin Storey for his years of collaborative leadership and service, and we look forward to working with Fr. Huber to further the Basilian mission and strengthen its enduring legacy at St. Michael’s,” said Susan Helstab, Chair of St. Michael’s Collegium.
The Basilian Fathers founded the University of St. Michael’s College in 1852. In 1881, St. Michael’s affiliated with the University of Toronto and has maintained an ongoing partnership with its founding order through its Catholic identity, scholarship and faculty.
“Witnessing Basilians minister in my high school and university, inspired me to join them in their noble ministry of Catholic education. I am grateful for the wonderful education I received at the University of St. Michael’s College, and I look forward to helping enhance the University’s Catholic mission in this new role,” said Fr. Huber.
“For 175 years, the University of St. Michael’s College has been sustained by the leadership and collaborative support of the Congregation of St. Basil. We are proud to carry their legacy in all that we do at our university. I look forward to working closely with Fr. Huber in the coming years, building on the fruitful relationship we have enjoyed with Fr. Storey and the Basilian Fathers’ General Council,” says David Sylvester, President of the University of St. Michael’s College.

Fr. Huber was ordained a Basilian priest in August 1992 after receiving his Master of Divinity from the University of St. Michael’s. He has held many leadership roles at Basilian high schools including principal at St. Thomas High School and principal and then president of Detroit Catholic Central. He has served as the Congregation’s Vicar General since 2018 and is the director of the Basilian Network for Education and New Evangelization, an initiative that offers professional development and faith formation to faculty and staff of Basilian high schools.
He succeeds Fr. Kevin Storey, CSB who served as Superior General for two four-year terms.
The election took place as part of the Congregation’s general chapter, which is held every four years and allows the community to reflect on the life of the Congregation and plan for its future.
